Our course combines both hands-on training and classroom time, ensuring you have the best of both worlds. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the essential skills needed for river rescue, including recognizing hazards, performing rescues, and understanding the principles of river hydraulics. Our curriculum is carefully designed to provide you with the knowledge and confidence necessary to make the right decisions in high-pressure situations.

Throughout the course, you will learn valuable skills such as swiftwater swimming, throw bag techniques, and basic rope systems. You'll also learn how to assess and manage risks, as well as how to work effectively in a rescue team. Our instructors are passionate about river rescue and are dedicated to ensuring that you gain a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Swiftwater Rescue Course for Boaters by Boaters

To participate in the river rescue course you should have a basic understanding of hydrology and familiarity with identifying features such as an eddy, eddy line, standing wave, hydraulic, hole, etc. You must have the ability to navigate a craft in a minimum of class II water and familiarity with basic rescue equipment such as throw bags and carabiners. This course is designed for River Guides, Kayak Instructors, Private Boaters / Kayakers, River Runners of all crafts (Raft, Kayak, IK, Packraft, etc).

This course is the perfect opportunity to develop essential rescue skills and have an adventure along the way. Whether you're a seasoned paddler or just starting, our River Rescue Course is sure to provide an unforgettable experience. Certification through Sierra Rescue International

Participation and observation in all activities and a co-signed skills check-of sheet are required to receive the certificate of completion. Upon completion of the 2-day RRC course you will receive a River Rescue Certification from Sierra Rescue International. This course meets all requirements for the ACA level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Certification. If you feel uncomfortable with participating in any of the activities during the course please let your instructor know that you would like to observe. It is good to know your own limits, which is an important and respected part of being a rescuer.

The River Rescue Course (RRC) was written and designed by professional river guides specifically for rafters, kayakers, and river runners of all crafts. This course is the perfect opportunity for anyone looking to learn how to navigate waters safely and efficiently.

A River Rescue Course with Wildwater offers the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors who are passionate about paddling and committed to providing high-quality instruction in a safe and supportive environment. Whether an individual is a seasoned

whitewater paddler or simply looking to gain experience and confidence on the river, a River Rescue Course can help them develop critical river safety and rescue skills.

Our primary goal is to ensure that you have learned the specialized skills and developed the confidence necessary to guide a raft through technical whitewater. Our instructors will work hard to make sure that all of your river experiences are fun and exciting. We keep guide-to-participant ratios low to ensure proper instruction and ample hands-on opportunities. No previous experience is necessary, so this training is a great chance for Leavenworth, Everett, Spokane, and Seattle river rafting enthusiasts to become professional guides.

Participation in this course does not guarantee employment with Wildwater but preference during the hiring process will go to those that have completed our guide training course. We strongly feel that there is more to being a professional guide than just on-river ability. Throughout the training course, individuals seeking employment will be evaluated on the following: rivers skills, work ethic, attitude, and communication skills. The state of Washington requires guides to be at least 18 years old, have a First Aid/CPR certification (certifications are not required to participate in guide training), and complete a minimum of 50 hours of training.

The cost of this course is 100% refundable if you work 10 commercial trips in your first season.

Wildwater's Guide School offers professional training that will prepare you to be a commercial whitewater paddle raft guide in Washington and beyond. This is a hands-on, comprehensive course designed to prepare people looking for employment in the whitewater industry or interested in learning how to guide from industry experts. COURSE LENGTH: 4 WEEKEND SESSIONS, 8 AM - 5 PM

PROPER MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION OF EQUIPMENT

No previous experience required, but you must be in good physical condition because our guide school is a hands-on learning experience that can last all day. Strong swimming ability is recommended, but not required to participate. Our Guide School is very popular and class size is limited so be sure to register early!

You may use your own river gear if appropriate.

Transportation: to and from the meeting location on training days

Accommodations: motels and campgrounds available near each site
